Soffits are the flat areas right under the eaves. It may
seem like they're out of the weather, but they collect a
lot of dirt and gunk along the way, and they're a favorite
hangout for bees' nests and spider webs. Make sure soffits
are clean before painting them.
Fascia are the flat boards that run right in front of the
soffits. They're exposed to all kinds of weather, so you'll
want to use a durable exterior trim paint.

Paint the soffit trim and the edges of the soffit panels with a
corner roller or sash brush. Always paint the horizontal
surfaces before you tackle the vertical ones -- little
mistakes won't be as noticeable that way. After the edges
are painted, paint the soffit panels with a 4-inch brush,
blending in at the edges. |

Using a
corner roller or a sash brush, make sure you paint the
bottom edges of the soffit trim before you paint the broad
faces. |

Paint the
fascia next, then the gutters and downspout outlets. Don't
forget to paint the bottoms of the fascia -- few things
are more disheartening than putting away the ladder and
looking up to see the job isn't complete. |
