Choosing Tools

There are so many great tools out there, choosing the right ones can be difficult. Here are some pointers to help you out.

When buying wooden handled tools, turn them on end. The strongest handle will have end grain parallel to the tool's head. If the grain is running the other way, the tool isn't as strong and probably won't hold up as long.

When choosing rulers and squares, buy metal rather than wood. The wooden versions can get nicked and gouged over time making it difficult to get an accurate measurement.

When trying to decide what power tools you need, think about tools that can serve more than one purpose. For example, a power drill will more often than not have screwdriver bits. So if you buy a drill, you can forgo the power screwdriver. Just make sure that the drill you choose is a variable-speed reversing drill so that it can perform the screwdriving tasks you need!

If you use your tools all over the house, you may want to opt for cordless models. They make it easy to move around and not worry about a cord!

Remember, more expensive isn't necessarily better. Look for quality. Better quality tools will save you time and money in the long run.
