Jigsaws

If you work on a lot of projects that you need to cut curves, then you need a jigsaw!

For versatility you want to choose a variable speed saw so you can change the speed depending upon the type of wood you're cutting and the type of blade you choose. A rule of thumb: when using coarse tooth blades use a faster speed, and use a low speed for fine tooth blades.

When using a jigsaw, be sure to hold the base plate firmly against your project, this will steady the tools vibrations and give you a cleaner finish.

Another easy way to a nice finish is to remember to work slowly. If you try to speed through a job your saw will bounce around and the blade could snap and cause serious injury.

Unlike most other saws, jigsaws cut on the upward stroke, so the top side has a tendency to splinter. Make sure you flip it so the good side or the finished side is facing down, and any damage will be on the back!
