Workshop Tips

Any project can have its frustrations, but with a little planning and know how, a lot of them can just disappear.

If you ever thought that you made a perfect cut just to find out that it was a little off, check out your measuring tape. Sometimes, the metal guide on the tip will become loose which can throw your measurements off buy a half inch or so. Before you cut something, check the tape as well as the measurements.

How about when sanding a project, you're working along and the sandpaper rips? You can reinforce a piece of sandpaper before you start by lining the back with some contact paper. Just trace the sandpaper and cut out the backing, then stick it in place.

Keep a block of paraffin wax on your workbench. If the saw blades get stuck, screws don't drive in right and drill bits aren't doing the job, you'll always know where the wax is for a quick lubricating job and get back to work.
