Rust Problems

If you have rust problems around your house, I have some tips that should help you out.

For rust stains on clothes; if the clothes can take hot water, add a tablespoon of cream of tartar to a quart of boiling water. Boil the item for about ten minutes and the stain should be gone. Another method is to treat the stain with a mixture of lemon juice and salt. Let it sit for a while, wash in hot water and then lay it in the sun to dry.

If you need to clean rust off of appliances or vinyl floors, scrub with a stiff bristled brush and a paste of baking soda and water.

For rust stains in your bathtub, mix together a paste of borax and lemon juice. Spread the paste over the stain and allow it to dry. When it has dried, scrub it away with hot water.

If your metal chair or table legs have become rusty, spread the borax and lemon juice paste over them and then scrub with a piece of crumpled aluminum foil

If you need to loosen rusty screws or bolts, pour some white vinegar or cola over them. It should eat through the rust so you can loosen them.
