Electric Ideas

Its' electric! I have some tips and pointers to keep you safe when working with electricity in your home.

Check the wattage on your lamps and fixtures; using a higher wattage than is recommended is a fire hazard!

If you have a mix of three prong and two prong outlets in your home, store three prong grounding adaptors in the rooms with the two prong outlets. This will eliminate the need to search for any adaptors when you're in the middle of a project.

If you need to use an extension cord make sure that it is at least as thick if not thicker than the cord you're plugging into it, using a skinnier cord could cause a circuit overload and that's a fire hazard.

When extension cords are not in use, loop a key ring through the prong end so that a curious child can't plug it into an outlet.

Other ways to stay kid conscious around electrical items, always, always use child safety covers on unused outlets, look for extension cords and power strips with protective slides to keep curious kids safe!

Keep a rubber mat under your electrical panel so that you're grounded any time your near the panel, any dampness on the floor could act as a conductor!
