Change a Doorknob

A broken knob isn't just a nuisance, it's dangerous. It's easy to replace, so don't put it off any longer.

Pick up a replacement knob at your local hardware store or home center and grab a screwdriver.

Take the screws out of the plate located behind the knob and the latch. Put the screws in a safe place.

Remove the knob from both sides of the door. Pull out the latch mechanism.

Fit the new latch mechanism into place.

Fit the side of the knob with the screw posts through the latch casing, so when you turn the knob it catches the latch and opens the door.

When the knob is securely in place, fit the other side over the posts. Attach the screws.

Test the key in the lock.
