Masonry Waterproofing

Waterproofing the cement walls in your basement is an important step to prevent water damage and moisture seepage. So don't put it off it's as easy as painting a room!

Because waterproofers vary from brand to brand, make sure you read and follow the directions on your product for cleaning and applying.

To prep your surface clean and patch your masonry walls. They must be free of all dirt and grease.

Open windows and run a fan for ventilation. It is also a good idea to wear a respirator mask so you don't breathe in the vapors. I recommend wearing gloves as it can irritate skin.

Stir product well and pour into a paint pan.

Use a long napped roller to apply the waterproofer to the walls just as you would regular paint. You can also use a wide nylon bristled brush work the product back and forth with kind of a cross-hatching motion.

Make sure that you get even and complete coverage. Allow the waterproofer to dry for about three hours. And then apply the second coat!
