Looking for some easy ways to keep your sliding doors - well sliding smoothly? I have some easy maintenance tips. It only takes a few minutes to make sure your sliding door keeps working right through the season!

Periodically clean the track. It can get dirt and grime built up inside that will gum up the works. Vacuum out any dirt and debris stuck in the track a crevice tool works wonders on this!

To clean the track, add a cup of white vinegar to a bucket of warm soapy water and scrub the track thoroughly. A toothbrush will help you get into tight areas.

If your door is sticking, try fine-tuning the roller height. Look for the adjusting screw on wood doors it's on the inside bottom edge. On aluminum doors it's on the inside vertical edge. A couple of quick turns and it will be as good as new.

In addition to sliding smoothly, you may also want to consider the door's safety factor. The nature of the door does not allow for a deadbolt or other security lock but there is a precaution that you can take. Cut a one by two board to fit in the track of the door when it is closed. This way if someone tries to open the door the board will act as a barricade.
