Cleaning Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is given with several decades of warranty, so when the flooring goes defective within the given time, the manufacturing company from which the product was acquired could replace the affected part, as long as certain conditions are met. It is ironic, though, that even with the expected life expectancy, many houses and establishments who fail to achieve the years and instead require a replacement earlier than expected.

So, what seems to be the problem?

Aside from unwanted accidents resulting the flooring to get defective, the only possible reason for the early demise of the life expectancy of certain laminate flooring is the lack of proper care. As easy and low-cost as it is, the problem lies in the fact that little neglect could allow for little damage to start at one area and eventually get bigger when ignored longer. Basically, it is by cleaning laminate flooring which could avoid the dilemma but in order to achieve this, it should be done regularly all year round.

It is true that laminate wood floorings are the type which requires the easiest method to maintain it, yet cleaning it properly and regularly is highly-essential. So, if you don’t want to be in the same boat as those who ignore the need of their laminate floorings to be kept in as like-new condition as possible, here are the following tips and methods in cleaning laminate flooring:

Cleaning laminate flooring requires the use of vacuum cleaner but make sure to always utilize one with hard floor attachments. This avoids the floor from getting scratches all over.
You can also use mop when cleaning laminate flooring. If this is what you have, make sure to avoid saturating the mop with water. Remember to get rid of the water on the flooring after cleaning by using slightly damp cleaning cloth.
If there are spills from the cleaning agent or water, make sure to get rid of them immediately to avoid markings left in the flooring.
Never use soaps, cleaners, and cleaning agents that were not recommended by the manufacturing company of your laminate flooring. The reason why manufacturers have their own recommendation is because there can be chemicals included in those cleaners that may harm the flooring.

Keeping those tips and doing the cleaning regularly will ensure they will last years allowing you to enjoy them all through the decades and not having the hassles of replacing a damaged entire prank of the flooring.

And while you are at it, you may also want to learn some preventive maintenance. You can apply preventive maintenance, in addition to cleaning regularly, to avoid the laminate flooring to incur unwanted damages. These are the following:

Use mats on all doorways, more especially on both sides and on those near the sinks or the stoves at the kitchen. This will keep your flooring free of oil, moisture, and dirt, in which they are all major destructive elements to any laminate flooring. If the corner where the mats are to be placed is where the flooring lays, it is suggested to use non-abrasive materials so that they would not negatively react with the surface of the laminate flooring.
Place rugs or huge mats on areas frequented by the people.
As the laminate flooring stability reacts against temperature, remember to keep the level with an average of 72°F. Humidity level is another factor and must be kept at an average of 55%.
