Stains are discolorations
that are distinguished from the material where they set
in. Usually, these are unintentional or due to
carelessness. In any manner, stains destroy the beauty of
the garment that is why a variety of techniques are done
to remove the stains.
Different materials are stained by different substances.
In removing the stains, it is important to know the
substance that caused the stain and the quality of the
material. In general, stains must be treated as soon as
possible in order to avoid a permanent mark. It is also
important to first test the stain remover on the less
visible area of the clothing to see the actual effect
without destroying the whole garment. Also, do not rub the
stained area to avoid the spreading of discoloration.
Instead of rubbing, blot the stain with a cloth and a
stain remover substance. If one technique does not work
with the stubborn stain, you may need to try another
technique to effectively eliminate the discoloration. If
this still doesn?t work, you must then seek the help of a
professional cleaner or find a replacement.
Here are effective tips to remove particular stains:
Wax- if wax accidentally sticks to your shirt, ease out
the removal by applying ice on the stain to harden it.
Then, scrape off the wax with the broader edge of a knife.
With the use of wax paper or paper towel, iron the other
side of the garment at a warm temperature and allow the
stain to stick on a paper. Repeat the procedure with new
sets of wax papers or paper towels in order to totally
remove the stain. Before washing the garment, spray a
stain remover to the stained area and wash it following
the instructions of the washing label.
Mud- Mud is an easy stain to remove. Just make sure that
you are able to remove the massive mud that is attached to
the garment and carefully rinse the area with cold water.
Avoid immersing the whole garment into water to avoid
brown discoloration from spreading. With laundry detergent
and water, the stains can easily be removed.
Wine- This item is anticipated in parties and good times
but definitely not on clothing. Wine leaves a nasty stain.
To get rid of this stain, spray the stained area with a
pre-soaked stain remover and soak the garment in cold
water for about thirty minutes. The carbonated soda can
also be used to blot up the stain with the help of an
absorbent cloth. And proceed to the laundry following the
garment?s washing label.
Grease- when fixing a car, you can hardly get rid of
grease stains. To remove such stain, simply scrape off the
grease and sprinkle the area with talcum powder. Talcum
powder is used to absorb the oil that gets to the fabric.
After twenty minutes, brush it off and apply a stain
remover. Let it sit for another few minutes and rub off
the area with the laundry detergent.
Blood- Unfortunately, tough guys are not only challenged
in fights but also in tough blood stains. To eliminate
blood stain, rinse the garment with cold water. Apply
ammonia on the stained area and let it sit for twenty
minutes. Then spray it with a stain remover or hydrogen
peroxide and let it sit for a few hours. Launder the
garment only with an enzyme detergent. |
